At some point this has happened to all of us.
Your friend calls with a great opportunity you just have to see.
You need money for …. kids’ college, aging parents, retirement fund, you name it … so you agree to meet.
You like what you hear about the company, the products, the pay plan.
Your friend is super-excited. The excitement is contagious. You sign up.
Soon you’re hugging and high-fiving and counting your commissions before your intro pack has even arrived.
The next morning you wake up in a cold sweat and you think … OMG!
How can I possibly work this business?
If I pitch this at work, I’ll get fired!
If I pitch this to my network, I’ll look so unprofessional no one will respect me in my job anymore.
If I introduce this to my friends, they’ll all think I’m crazy.
And I’ve already paid for this! What have I done?
Stop! Seriously – stop!
You absolutely can build your business without getting fired, looking unprofessional or seeming to have lost your mind.
How? That’s what this blog will teach you.
I’m about to reveal to you 5 Proven Steps to Succeed in Network Marketing without getting fired or alienating your friends. |
Step 1 - Learn
Take a deep breath.
You need to learn.
Promise yourself for the first month – or two or three - you won’t do anything except learn – about the products – try everything you can – about the company – ask lots of questions – about the pay plan – know it backwards. Read, listen, digest everything.
And stay connected with your network marketing community. That’s your lifeline.
The friend who signed you up will push you to start posting on social media right away.
Don’t.
If you absolutely have to, post something like “Started a new business. Excited to have another stream of income for (retirement, college, debt reduction …)”
Leave it at that. Do not name the company. As Ray Higdon says (https://rayhigdon.com/), curiosity is key here.
At this point, you need to get comfortable in your own skin with the products, the company and the opportunity.
You also need to get crystal clear about why you’re pursuing this additional source of income. Enter step 2.
Step 2 - Know your Why
Knowing Why you want to succeed in network marketing is critical to your success.
Your Why is what will keep you going when things get rough and you’re ready to quit.
Dig deep to discover the real reason why you want to succeed. The first answer is rarely the one you’re looking for.
Write out your Why, then imagine what success will look like. Use all your senses and feelings of accomplishment, and refine the vision until you know in your heart this is truly what will satisfy that Why.
Then read what you have written and envision your success every day.
When your Why is strong enough in your heart and mind to pull your forward, you’re ready for step 3.
Step 3 - Share the Products
Start reaching out with the products, not the opportunity.
That’s right. We’ll get to building your team – promise – and it’ll be easier than you think.
But right now, take a page from Network Marketing great, Lisa Grossman, and concentrate on customers.
Next, follow Eric Worre’s advice ( https://networkmarketingpro.com/). Approach your family and friends. Gently.
Explain that you’ve started a new business and you’d love their support.
Say you love the products and you’d really appreciate it if they would give XYZ a try.
If they aren’t happy with the product after 30 days, they can cancel and get a refund – no questions asked.
If they love the product, like you do, you’d be honored to have them as a customer.
End of story.
Do not try to recruit them.
They will be much more comfortable talking to you, asking questions, discussing products, and buying something if they don’t think you’ll back them into signing up.
And they won’t think you’re crazy because the dreaded MLM word won’t come up.
Most importantly – do not become invested in the outcome. If they buy, great. If they don’t, no biggie. Just keep them on your list for the next part.
Step 4 - Serve
That’s right. Serve.
That means choosing a product or area that you will research, and start educating people on it. That’s what you’re going to post. Education, not sales.
Let’s take an area I know nothing about – skincare. You can post blogs, tips on Facebook or email me about the importance of serum.
You can explain what happens when I don’t use it and when I do.
You can explain ingredients to watch out for and ones I should want.
You can tell me when to use it and in combination with what other products like cleanser or moisturizer.
Make the posts short, pithy, interesting.
Do it without mentioning your specific products. And, especially on social media, interweave it with other posts – say 1 or 2 in 10.
Once I understand, I may ask what you use. If I do, you can private message me or email me to have a discussion on the phone where you can introduce me to your product line.
Easy. Professional. No rejection. And no one got fired.
If you don’t have a large network to blog or email to, don’t worry. This will help Click Here.
Now for the last step.
Step 5 – Follow up, follow up, follow up and follow up
It’s well-known in the network marketing industry that out of every group of customers a few will ask about the opportunity.
They will have gone to your website, seen the company logo, maybe even done some research. And they’ll want to know how they can get in on the opportunity as well.
If you’ve stayed in touch regularly they’ll approach you. And that’s the time to talk about the company and the plan.
No hype, no pressure.
Sign them up and teach them the same 5 steps I’ve revealed to you here.
Simple and effective.
